REQUEST FOR INTERLIBRARY LOAN

What is an Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

An Interlibrary Loan is a unique service where an item is borrowed from another library. Interlibrary Loans are intended to provide patrons with access to books that the Murray City Library does not own and is unable to purchase. If a book is not available through the Salt Lake City Library or the Salt Lake County Library, you may submit a request. See Purchase Requests or We Recommend for additional service options.

Interlibrary Loan Policies and Procedures

Please read and agree to the following Interlibrary Loan policies and procedures before making a request.

Interlibrary loan service is only available to full privilege, adult patrons whose accounts are in good standing. This service is not available to New, Internet, or Homebound patrons.

Only standard-sized books can be submitted as Interlibrary Loan requests. We are unable to fulfill requests for oversized items, textbooks, academic books and journals or audio-visual materials.

Patrons may only have one Interlibrary Loan at a time. An Interlibrary Loan must be returned on time and in good condition before another Interlibrary Loan request can be made.

Patrons will be notified by the Customer Service Librarian when their Interlibrary Loan is available for pick up. All Interlibrary Loans must be checked out from the service desk inside the library. At check out, patrons are required to sign for the Interlibrary Loan. The Interlibrary Loan will be checked out in a protective bag.

All Interlibrary Loans will check out for an initial three-week period, unless otherwise requested by the lending library. Renewal requests must be made to the Customer Service Librarian as least 5 business days in advance of an item’s due date. There is no guarantee of renewals.

All Interlibrary Loans and the bags that they were checked out in must be returned to a staff member at the service desk by the item’s due date. Patrons are required to sign to confirm that the item has been returned. Interlibrary Loans must not be returned in the book drop. If an Interlibrary Loan is returned in the book drop and is misplaced, the patron will be responsible for the total replacement cost of the item.

All fees and fines associated with an Interlibrary Loan will be the responsibility of the patron. If fines are accrued, they will be added to the patron’s Murray City Library account. If an Interlibrary Loan bag is not returned, the replacement cost will be added to the patron’s account.
