Steve Jobs was the man with the vision behind personal computing, legal acquisition of digital content and most of the cool things that people do on their smartphones. Pixar would never have created Toy Story if not for Steve Jobs. This book chronicles the life of Steve Jobs, the former CEO of Apple, from his start as the adopted child of a poor, blue-collar family to one of the most recognizable and richest men in the world. He was also, apparently, a huge jerk and really weird about food.

Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson is a very compelling read that captures the life of one of America’s greatest innovators, quirks and shortcomings included. Despite how you feel about Macs and iPods, you owe it to yourself to peer into the life of someone who has incontrovertibly altered business and American culture. Desert Solitaire depicts Ed’s time as a Park Ranger in Arches (National Park) back when it was a National Monument in the late 1950′s or so. “True” recollections of time spent working and exploring in the southern Utah desert and the Colorado Plateau accompany Ed’s unique personal views that have helped shape certain environmental movements and ideologies. This is a great introduction to the famous, or infamous to some, Edward Abbey. His work has inspired many to explore Earth’s natural wonders, relish in them, and preserve them. Often compared to Thoreau’s “Walden,” this is the book that distinguished Ed as a nature writer. Enjoy.
